Pioneers, Assemblies and Important Dates

The last couple of weeks in second grade have flown by! The kids have had a great couple of weeks and are very close to filling our classroom bucket!

We are just beginning our pioneer unit! We started by learning about past and present. We shared some important things from our past.

In music, the students have been working very hard on learning how to play the guitar! This is a new unit this year and they are loving it :)

During Daily Five Reading we have introduced all five stations: Read to Self, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, Read to Someone and Word Work. The students are doing a great job of picking their own books and building reading stamina!

This week we have had a couple of assemblies. The first assembly was Dan Wardell from PBS Kids! He was a great speaker and taught the kids how important it is to cut down on TV time and find a good book!

Our next assembly was Innisbrook. I sent the packet home with the students in their Friday folders! The money from this fundraiser is used to help fund many things for the elementary school including our new gym floor! We even had a surprise visit from Superman himself at the assembly! Joy Pritchard got some great pictures of the assembly. You can check the PIE Facebook page for more pictures!

Friday was Iowa/Iowa State day. The Cyclone fans were definitely outnumbered in our class!

Important Days Coming Up:

Next week is homecoming and these are our dress up days for homecoming:

Tuesday: Hat Day
Wednesday: Jersey Day/T-Shirt Day
Thursday: Pajama Day
Friday: Spirit Day/Red and Black Day

Fishing Day is also next week. Our class will be going fishing on September 16th from 1:45-3:00. Feel free to meet us at the fish hatchery if you would like to fish with us!
