Second Grade Updates!

Spring is on its way!! Looks like we are going to have a great week for outside recess this coming week :) Just a reminder the conferences are coming up on Tuesday, March 17th and Thursday, March 19th. Our conference scheduling is all ready to go with our online system. If you have not signed up already please sign up for your conference time as soon as possible. I will upload the directions on how to sign up at the bottom of this blog post.

I have sent home a shamrock and letter home in the Friday folders. Please decorate this shamrock as a family and send back with the students by Friday, March 13th.

Here is an update on some of the things we have been working on in second grade!

In math we have been learning all about money! At the beginning of our money unit the students worked in groups to create a presentation on how to count money. Here are our presentations:

To learn the value of money we worked together to plan a pretend one night stay for a family of five in Sioux Falls. I had the students decide what we needed to buy during our trip and where they would like to go and stay throughout the trip. In groups the students planned out the menu prices and figured out how much each part of the trip would cost. After most groups decided they would need appetizers and desserts at each restaurant they figured out that money can add up quick :) They did all all of the math to figure out how much the trip would cost!

In reading we have been working on getting a bingo on our book club bingo sheet. We have one more box to get to complete our bingo. One of our bingo boxes was to create a book review. Take a look at some of our book reviews:

In Social Studies we have been learning about the presidents. Each student picked a president to do a report on and then shared some facts from their report with the class. The kids had a blast working in groups to practice and perform an Abraham Lincoln readers theater.

The Spanish four students have started to come over for 30 minutes a week to teach the second grade beginning spanish. The second graders are loving this and hopefully have been coming home and sharing the new words they have learned!

Of course there is always time for some fun brain breaks as well!

Here are the directions for getting signed up for your conferences!
